About The Department The Public Works Department is charged with maintaining the city’s street system, traffic flow, city buildings, parks, landscapes and trees. It also administers and oversees private construction activities which take place in the public right-of-way.

It is charged with implementing the city’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This includes the design and construction of new parks, buildings, streets, water and sewer lines, etc.

The department also provides internal services to other city employees by maintaining all government buildings and the extensive fleet of vehicles.
