Adult Sports

 

Value a healthy body, exercise, be well, and play hard.  Sports enthusiasts looking for a quality team, look no further!  San Luis Obispo provides its community members with excellent opportunities for a healthy approach to life.  The City of San Luis Obispo currently offers three seasons of Adult Softball.  Leagues for each sport run ten weeks and registration fees cover facility and equipment expenses as well as player’s insurance.

Softball 
Softball for all levels is offered in Spring, Summer and Fall.  Spring Softball starts in March, Summer leagues begin in June and Fall play commences in September ending in November. All games are played at Santa Rosa and El Chorro Softball Parks, and game times run for one hour and five minutes.
League fees vary based on a team’s status as a returning or new team, and all teams are considered new teams each calendar year. Each team plays a 10 game season per session. 

Spring 2010 Softball Registration
Sign-up for Spring 2010 starts February 16 and ends February 26, 2010. The season begins on March 15, 2010.  Please click here for the registration packet!

Youth Sports

 

Youth Sports programs are instructional and organized athletic activities for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Volleyball, Track, Basketball, Flag Football, and Baseball/Softball programs provide fundamental sports instruction in a non-competitive environment that focuses on participation.

Coed Volleyball - Fall  
Bump, set, and spike in a non-competitive environment. Girls and boys in grades 4th through 6th are taught the fundamentals of volleyball from enthusiastic coaches; while playing one game per week. This program serves beginner and advanced players. Be sure to attend the instructional clinic during the first week of practice.

Youth Basketball - Winter  
Once again, this year’s Youth Basketball season is presented through the partnership of the Parks and Recreation Department and the SLO County YMCA. Leagues are as follows: 5 year olds - coed, 6 & 7 year olds - coed, 8 & 9 year old girls, 8 & 9 year old boys, 10-12 year old girls, and 10-12 year old boys. Games are played once per week. 

2010 Schedules are as follows:

5 year olds - Coed Division
6&7 year olds - Coed - Blue Division
6&7 year olds - Coed - White Division
8&9 year olds - Girls Division
8&9 year olds - Boys - Blue Division
8&9 year olds - Boys - White Division
10-12 year olds - Girls Division
10-12 year olds - Boys - Eastern Division
10-12 year olds - Boys - Western Division
 

Indoor Soccer (Futsal Version) - Spring 
Sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department and the SLO County YMCA, Futsal is played on a small court with five players on each team with a variation of outdoor soccer rules.  This program for children in grades 1-12 is offered in May and June with games on Friday evenings; practices are held at local schools once a week.

Registration for the Futsal Indoor Soccer program includes a mandatory parent meeting to complete registration for the program by participating in a half hour presentation of the PAYS (Parent Association for Youth Sports) Program

First Tee Youth Golf - Fall through Spring 
Youth, ages 7-17, are eligible to participate in the First Tee golf program, held at Laguna Lake Golf Course.  For more information, call (805) 781-7228 or (805) 781-7300.

Junior Giants Baseball - Summer
Junior Giants is a FREE, non-competitive summer baseball program for girls and boys (ages 8-10 years and 11-13 years) sponsored by the Giants Community Fund and the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department.

Sign-ups begin on May 4 and end on June 16, 2009. The Junior Giants season runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 30 to August 6. The Junior Session (8-10 years old) is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Senior Session (11-13 years old) is from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. There is MANDATORY Parent Orientation Meeting on Wednesday, June 24.

Teen Sports

 

The SLO Parks and Recreation Department offers the following sports programs for 7th and 8th graders during the school year. All sports programs are offered to students at any skill level. Everyone who registers for the program is put on a team. Registration is taken at Laguna Middle School during the lunch hour the week before the program starts or at the Parks & Recreation Administrative offices, 1341 Nipomo Street.
