General
Information
Completion, rather than competition, is the focus of the City of San
Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department's Annual Triathlon. Each
participant is encouraged to attain his or her own personal goal. This short course triathlon accommodates the novice participant and
still gives the experienced participant a challenge.
Swim - 0.5 miles Bike - 15.3 miles Run - 3.1 miles
The
pool swim takes place at the San Luis Obispo Swim Center. Each
participant swims 36 widths, straight-line swim, in the Olympic-sized
pool. All San Luis Obispo Swim Center rules must be obeyed.
Each participant is required to bring his or her own lap counter.
Only the participant and their lap counter will be allowed on the pool
deck.
Cyclists leave Sinsheimer pool parking lot and proceed to Orcutt Road
for the majority of the out and back course. The course is full of
rolling hills. Participants must obey all traffic laws. Portions of the bike course will be open to auto traffic. HELMETS ARE
REQUIRED. All helmets must be designed for cycling, must be
ANSI, SNELL, or CPSC certified and must be manufactured no earlier
than 2004 with no visible damage. Bicycles must be in good
working order, and it is recommended that they be tuned up prior to
Triathlon weekend.
The
run will travel along the Railroad Recreational Trail before heading
on City sidewalks and streets to the finish at the San Luis Obispo
Baseball Stadium. The course is mostly flat with a long hill towards
the end. Runners are required to stay on sidewalks
and obey all traffic laws.
