Senior Center Membership

$12 per year (Open to City residents 55+)
All members receive a monthly newsletter, access to the Senior Center during hours of operation, free coffee at the center and first chance to sign up for the recreation programs below.

Pickleball is America’s fastest growing sport! It's like tennis, but played on a smaller court. Easy to learn, low impact and great exercise means it’s a great activity for all ages. The City currently offers indoor and outdoor Pickleball sessions at the following times and locations:

 Ludwick Community Center   W  noon - 2pm
 Meadow Park Tennis Courts   M,W,F   9 - 11:30am

Executive Board Meetings
The San Luis Obispo Senior Center Executive Board addresses the recreational needs and concerns of Senior Center members, as well as organizes events in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department. Board meetings are held monthly; representatives from user groups at the center as well as the general public are encouraged to attend. To be placed on the agenda call the Senior Center at 781-7306 at least seven days prior to the meeting. 55+

Catalog Description: This class presents healthy food and cooking choices that maintain optimum health for active older adults.  Students learn basic concepts of nutrition as well as how to prepare tasty, flavorful and nutritious meals based on those concepts and using fresh food from local markets. A fun, relaxed and informative class for anyone interested in better eating with healthier choices.
Classes meet at the SLO Senior Community Center on Thursdays, now through 5/18/18. 
To join this class, come to the next class meeting on Thursday, April 5th.

Beginning Music Arts for Seniors

This class develops critical listening ability and enriches musical experiences with the study of style, intonation, and lyrical content of musical selections. Attendance at concerts and preliminary and follow-up discussions help students to become more critical listeners. Presents an opportunity to become critical listeners of performed music and thereby to enjoy the experience of attending musical events. Students participate in discussions and listening experiences focusing on style, intonation, and lyrical content. A fee may be charged for tickets to concerts and other musical activities.

Classes meet at the SLO Senior Community Center on Fridays, now through 5/11/18.  To join this class, come to the next class meeting on Friday, April 6th.

Food Bank
The Brown Bag program provides a monthly bag of groceries for eligible individuals. Bags are distributed at the Senior Center and available for low income seniors in the City of San Luis Obispo. Recipients must show proof of San Luis Obispo residency.

Gem and Mineral Club
The Gem and Mineral Club is a unique find. Enjoy sharing and learning about gems and stones through group discussions and mineral exploration. 55+

General Membership Luncheons
Enjoy monthly presentations while eating a nutritious meal with friends. To make a lunch reservation, call the Senior Center at 781-7306. 55+

Pinochle and other Games
Pick-up a card game and take pleasure in the company of others. Socialize and teach others favorite card games or join in on-going games. 55+

Roundtable Readers
Explore literary adventures and tales with other insightful readers. Various authors, topics and novels are discussed each month, giving the opportunity to critique and analyze wondrous and obscure pieces of literature. 55+

Book Club
The Group reads books from the San Luis Obispo County Library “Book Club in a Box” program. Charter members have first chance for the 10 books, however anyone who has read the book or wants to get their own copy is welcome to attend the discussion. 55+

Silver Streaks
Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Volunteer with Silver Streaks, a group that provides mailing services to non-profit organizations within San Luis Obispo. 55+

Adult Wellness and Prevention Screening
Take good care of yourself! Services include: monitoring of blood pressure, pulse and weight; finger prick blood test screening for anemia, blood sugar and cholesterol; nutritional and lifestyle counseling. Brain Aerobics
Taught by Sonja Glassmeyer. Remember, it’s only hard until it’s easy. Join the group for challenging mental exercises, puzzles, facts and techniques to strengthen and challenge the functioning power of the brain, all presented in a fun way that stimulate brain development. 55+

Bridge: “Party” Bridge
Bridge is an ageless interactive game involving skill and wit. Play this classic game to keep the mind sharp and stimulated. Groups meet and play bridge on a weekly basis. 55+

This game keeps your mind young by exercising gray cells. Several opportunities throughout the week to meet and play bridge. Lessons offered.

Laguna Golf Course 11175 Los Osos Valley Rd

Active SLO Senior Center Members are invited to Laguna Lake Golf Course every third Monday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for free play. Senior Center members have access to putting and chipping area plus driving range free of charge. LLGC will provide all equipment needed for a fun time on the links. 55+
