Fire
Prevention and Life Safety
The Bureau is an integral
component of the Fire Department. It serves the community in a variety of ways.
The prevention prevention program prevents
injury and loss to life, property and the environment caused by fire, explosion or
exposure to hazardous materials.
Program goals include:
- Eliminating fire hazards and
investigating fires in buildings, equipment and properties
- Safely handling and containing all
hazardous materials.
- Broadening public awareness about the
dangers of fire and hazardous materials.
Fire Prevention
Safety Message
The Fire Department
has been busily working on its public education efforts. To that end, a
double-sided Fire Safety education flyer was created and distributed to
all Cal Poly students in May. With the incoming school year t will
again be given to Cal Poly students. It is expected that approximately
3,000 of these handouts will be given out at Farmer’s Market and various
event booths throughout the year. The flyer discusses such issues as
Alcohol Consumption, Burning Candles (no. 1 cause of fires), Smoking and
Unsafe Housing.

Additionally,
in conjunction with the Building Department, and at the request of
City Council, a tri-fold brochure was mailed to every resident in the City,
20,000 in all. The Code Enforcement Officers will also be handing this out
on their inspections of single family residential properties. The
tri-fold discusses Fire and Life Safety Tips, Signs of Unsafe Housing,
and “It’s Up to You to Protect Yourself”. For More Information
