The City of San Luis Obispo recognizes that our concentration of unreinforced masonry buildings provide this City with the distinctive quality that we all enjoy.  However, the City also recognizes the danger posed by these buildings. Prompted by recent seismic activity, the City Council accelerated
deadlines, including fire sprinkler deadlines, for the strengthening of unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings in San Luis Obispo.  In addition, the City Council adopted the recommendations of the Chamber of Commerce Seismic Task Force to help each owner comply within the new timeframes.  By establishing minimal application and permit fees for strengthening projects, and offering the assistance of the Economic Development Manager, the City is encouraging all URM owners to comply with the new deadlines for strengthening their buildings.  You many find it helpful to review the Seismic Plan Details.
